Two Macs. One little pointer ghost.

Two Macs.
One pointer.

Hold ⌘, slide your cursor to the edge of one Mac,
and a calm pointer ghost appears on the other. Nothing is clicked. Nothing is controlled.

Waiting for a pointer

ReceiverShows the matching spot

Both Macs are idle. Hold ⌘ on each to begin.

Consent is a key, not a setting. Toggle it on each Mac, or hold the real ⌘ key.

Just a demo. No packets leave this page.

A pointer hint.
Not a takeover.

A visible
pointer ghost.

The receiver draws the sender’s chosen colour and shape, gliding smoothly to the matching spot. It looks like presence, not possession.

Consent on
both sides.

Each Mac holds ⌘. Let go on either, and the session ends that instant.

No remote
control. Ever.

The overlay ignores mouse events. It cannot click, type, drag, or scroll on the other Mac.

Stays on
your network.

One tiny UDP message travels across your local network. No account, no server, no cloud.

Wakes at
the edge.

Positions only send within 24 pixels of a screen edge, so ordinary work never leaks across.

Proportional.
Any screen size.

Positions are normalized to the sender’s display, so movement stays in proportion on the receiver.

THREE SMALL STEPS

Run it. Hold it.
Nudge the edge.

The current build is deliberately minimal. It exists to test one interaction: does a pointer ghost feel right between two Macs?

  1. Run on both Macs

Launch ELTransfer.app on each. A small ↔ appears in the menu bar.

  2. Hold ⌘ on both

The sender says “share my position.” The receiver says “show it to me.” Both are needed.

  3. Move to an edge

Within 24 pixels of any edge, the receiver shows a pointer at the matching spot, in the colour and shape chosen in the menu-bar panel.

HONEST ABOUT THE EDGES

Still a prototype.
Here’s what that means.

ELTransfer is an experiment shared early. It tests a feeling, not a finished product. Some things you might expect are simply not there yet.

  • Not implementedBonjour discovery, pairing, encryption, multi-display mapping, real pointer handoff.
  • Hard-coded targetThe sender looks for ELTransfer.local on port 47000. Name resolution must work on your network.
  • Unsigned buildmacOS will ask you to confirm the app and to grant Accessibility and Input Monitoring.
  • Plain packetsCoordinates travel as small JSON over UDP with no authentication. Use it on networks you trust.

Small experiment.
Clear limits.

Can ELTransfer control the other Mac?

No. It sends normalized cursor coordinates and draws an overlay. It cannot move the receiving Mac’s real cursor, click, type, drag, or scroll. The overlay window ignores mouse events entirely.

Does it need the internet?

No. Both Macs need to be reachable on the same local network. There is no cloud service, no account, and no update feed in this build.

Why do both Macs need to hold ⌘?

It is a consent gesture. Holding the key means “I’m allowing this right now.” Letting go stops sending on one side and stops showing on the other. Nothing is remembered between sessions.

What does the receiver actually see?

A soft pointer in the sender’s chosen colour — red, green, blue, yellow or purple — as a circle, rounded square or sharp square. It springs to the proportional position of the sender’s cursor and fades away when packets stop arriving.

Why might macOS show a warning?

This prototype is not signed or notarized. If macOS blocks launch, right-click ELTransfer in Applications and choose Open, or allow it in System Settings → Privacy & Security. It also needs Accessibility and Input Monitoring to read the cursor position and the ⌘ key. Only open software you trust.

Is the preview above the real app?

It is an illustration of the interaction, not the macOS app. It mirrors the real behaviour: consent on both sides, activation near the edge, a proportional ghost. Nothing is sent from this page.

Two Macs.
One quick test.

Grab the build, run it on both machines,
and see whether a pointer ghost belongs between them.
