Good to know.
What do I need?
A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or newer) on macOS 14 Sonoma or later. The live voices work straight away. Voice cloning also needs git, uv and ffmpeg, which you can install with Homebrew: brew install git uv ffmpeg. ELAudio then sets up the open-source cloning lab and downloads its models, which are a few gigabytes.
macOS says it can’t check the app. What do I do?
ELAudio isn’t notarized by Apple yet. Open it once, then go to System Settings › Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway. macOS will also ask for microphone permission. Only open apps you trust; you can compare the SHA-256 below with your download.
How fast is a cloned voice live?
Expect about half a second of delay, depending on your Mac. The Delay setting lets you trade a bit more delay for a clearer voice. The built-in voices (Old Lady, Middle-Aged Man and your own) are practically instant.
Does the virtual mic change anything else on my Mac?
Only while Talk Live runs with “Use in calls” on: it becomes the default microphone, and your previous mic is put back when you stop. You can remove it at any time from the app (How to set up… › Remove Virtual Mic).
Why do I hear an echo?
If you’re on speakers, the new voice can leak back into the mic. Use headphones. ELAudio already turns off “Hear myself” on speakers for this reason.
